In Character Information

character name: Thor Odinson
Fandom: Marvel movieverse; Thor (2011 film), upcoming Avengers & Thor 2. I'll be filling in the blanks with comics canon, particularly in regard to his abilities, etc.
Timeline: Thor will be coming from the end of the film Thor, after the Bifrost is broken, etc. He will have already faced his trials of losing his powers and hammer, and grown enough from the arrogant man-child he was at the beginning of the movies that he'll be able to at least... play well with others.
character's age: He's a god, so he doesn't age like normal people. However, he's at least around 1050 years old, given that Loki was adopted as a baby at the end of the Frost Giant wars, which were in 965 AD, and Thor had already been born at this time.

powers, skills, pets and equipment:

Strength like a motherfuck: Not only is Thor the son of Odin, but biologically the son of an Elder goddess, which makes him quite literally, one of the physically strongest beings in the universe. In the comics, he can even crush moons with his fists. CRUSH MOONS. In the movieverse, he spends most of the movie in a 'mortal form', but by the end of it, he's returned to his moon crushing glory. However it's important to note that Thor also has a strong sense of honor in battle, and he holds back his power to match the strength of those he fights.

Berserker Rage: As if he weren't strong enough to go around crushing moons already, like any good barbarian god, Thor can go into A RAGE!!111 and get even stronger. Just don't get in his way.

The Highest Con Score.: Thor has an advanced constitution, to the point of NOT GETTING TIRED EVER when fighting. That's right. He can just go on and on and on and on and on. This implies a lot of things about his sexual prowess that we won't go into here.

Speedy Gonzalez: Thor's not just dangerous due to his brutish strength - he can also move at superhuman speeds, his motions almost a blur if he's operating at full capacity. When he flies, he can cross great distances like a freaking rocket.

"Immortal" Form: Technically, in his normal form, Thor doesn't have to eat, drink, sleep, etc. Hell, even breathe. That's right. He can hang out in space just fine. This doesn't mean he doesn't like eating & drinking. Just the opposite, in fact. But only his mortal Earthbound form 'required' sustenance. He's immune to disease, poison, fire, electrocution, etc. He also can't get drunk. Part of his lifeforce exists in his hammer, so without it, he'd be slightly easier to kill. But that really... doesn't mean much. He's capable of regeneration, but this will be slowed slightly in Anatole. This also means that he has superhumanly dense skin, muscle, and bone tissue and can deal with blows, explosions, energy blasts, falls, etc. that would kill lesser men instantly.

Asgard's Next Top Warrior: Or really 'next' nothing. He's a trained master fighter in hand to hand, wrestling, brawling, swordmanship, hammer wielding, and various other archaic weapons proficiencies. He has centuries of battle experience to draw on, and can take on hundreds of enemies... at once.

Many of Thor's abilities are linked directly to his hammer, Mjolnir, which is tied to his life force. With his hammer, he has various other abilities:

Weather Control: Just what it sounds like. He can summon storms, rain, thunder, lightning, earthquakes, whatever the fuck he wants, and then control it. He can even make it rain in space. 8|

Mystic Link: There's an almost living aspect to Mjolnir, and he can issue commands to it through his lifebond to the weapon, even when it is not in his possession. He can summon it to him through any physical barrier (even planets...) He can also recall the weapon to his hand when he throws it in battle.

Flight: It's not really "flying" per se, so much as hurtling the hammer with insane strength and then... riding it through the air. He usually flies at roughly 770 miles/hr. though he's capable of traveling at three times the speed of light. Or... more.

Energy Projection: Thor can conjure mystic energy blasts from the weapon. In theory, he can conjure blasts strong enough to destroy entire planets. But... most of the time he tones that way down, obviously. He can also absorb energy blasts directed at him, and then send them back at the enemy.

Transformation: He can use his hammer to transfer in and out of his ~god wardrobe~. Yep.

canon history: Tada~

personality:

People say a lot of terrible things about Thor. He gets called arrogant, stupid, vain, rash, reckless, and accused of being nothing more than a child trying to prove himself a man.

The thing is, none of these things are exaggerations. While Thor is indeed the golden child of Asgard, a god and the mightiest warrior potentially in the universe, he's also an incredibly flawed dude, spoiled by the attention and position he was born into. He lacks all of the wisdom and foresight that are what truly make his father, Odin, such an effective King, and it is this, combined with his dangerous temper and his propensity towards living in the moment and lust for battle, that led to his inciting war between Asgard and the Frost Giants again. This was really his Crowning Moment of Stupidity and encapsulated everything about what Thor still had to learn before he could become the King he is destined to be.

Part of what makes Thor so beloved by his people, despite his many flaws, is that he is intensely charismatic, and beyond this, remarkably sincere. While his brother Loki is known for being secretive and keeping his intentions hidden, Thor wears his motivations directly on his sleeve, and sees no reason to act otherwise. What he believes, he believes entirely, and he throws his whole heart into it without allowing doubt to creep in. This confidence is the positive flipside to his egotism, and it's part of what makes people believe in him, want to follow him, worship him for his remarkable exploits. He's also godlike in his mannerisms, and possesses a chivalric nature that makes him seem even more out of place when he's in the mortal realms. He walks, talks, and comports himself like something from another time and place, but he doesn't seem put out or baffled by modern technology either, given that his civilization is actually highly advanced, in their own way. He understands that there are many things out there he has not seen before, and has encountered so many of them in his travels and his adventures, that he can take things in stride very easily.

Despite Thor's power, his charisma, his honesty - he still is not the brightest hammer in the shed. 8| His brother corners the market on cunning, which translates to Thor doesn't have any of the real brains in the family. He's easily tricked, because he just doesn't take the time to think much of anything through to conclusion. This is also why he's categorized as so reckless. He sees the direct solution to things as the easiest one and therefore generally cuts worrying about consequences and shit out of the equation and gits it done.

Thor's trials upon being cast out of Asgard broadened his perspective quite a bit, and earned him a realization of how far he had to go. He went from calling his father a fool to being humbled enough to admit that he had yet to be worthy of his father's pride upon returning home. This journey involved him first realizing that he could not simply follow the road of might and brute strength to proving his worthiness, which was a heavy blow to his arrogance. It was only upon accepting defeat and sacrificing himself, finding what he had to live for outside of what he had held onto his whole life, that allowed him to regain his power and redeem himself.

And then it was Hammertime.

It was through his connection to Jane Foster that he really came to develop and demonstrate a capacity for generosity and placing others over his own sense of self-importance as a hero and warrior. His feelings for her are, like all his feelings, very sincere and straightforward, and what she represents to him as his anchor to the mortal world is part of what makes him think of the universe and what he might do for it in greater terms than just as a hero of Asgard.

why do you feel this character would be appropriate to the setting?

He canonically travels dimensions and is used to different "realms"; has dealt with being trapped in one before; and oh, yeah, can kick everything's ass. He'll be fine.

Third Person Sample:

Thor was running out of things to smash.

Yes, yes, his journeys and trials on Earth had changed him. Matured him, to some small degree. But they hadn't done anything to quell the temper that, as a point of fact, partly defined him. And he was suffering, in a way he didn't wish to reveal entirely to his people. While they too grieved for what had occurred, they saw it, overall, as a triumph. Thor and Odin were heroes, while Loki was painted in varying shades of traitor, depending which account an Asgardian had heard. The adventures of Thor and the Warriors Four, his triumphant return, the waking of the All-Father from the OdinSleep: all of these were discussed with animation and cheer across the realm.

To Thor, this victory was the hardest won of any he had earned, much moreso than the defeat of the Destroyer that had all but cost him his own life.

He had his lost his brother, who, no matter how misguided he may have become, no matter what he had meant to do, would always be his brother. To have him remembered as a traitor by the people seemed to discredit the years they had spent at each other's sides, the love they had borne each other.

And that was not all he had lost in destroying the Bifrost. He'd made a choice to sever his connection to the place where he had learned more about who he truly was than he had in all the centuries he'd adventured throughout Asgard and the other realms. For all the pain and loss he had experienced there, he had achieved a sort of contentment and clarity of purpose there that was unparalleled in his life.

He'd lost all that. And still the people cheered.

His fist came crashing down through the center of the table, and it groaned and splintered under the blow, buckling beneath his frustrated blow. He remained thus, shoulders hunched, face contorted with emotion, breathing heavily, until he heard Sif's voice in the doorway.

"They're waiting for you, Thor." There was hesitance in her tone, an understanding and offered sympathy for his pain that said much more than those simple words. He straightened, turning his head slightly in her direction.

"Do you think I chose rightly, Sif?" he asked, blunt as always. She entered the room, walking carefully around the abused furniture to stand on the other side of the table, watching him.

"I think you chose like a King would," was her simple reply. "That doesn't mean you aren't allowed to wish you had had some other option." His eyes rose to meet hers, and a tiny smile creased the corner of her eyes, though it was tinged with sadness as well. It brought an evenness back to his own features, and he thanked her with the subtlest of nods, gratitude shining through his gaze.

"Come," he said, rising to his full height, head held high as he surveyed the mess he'd left. "I'd hate to keep them waiting any longer."

He could grieve Loki on his own time. His people needed his strength now - and not the brute kind.

Plus a sample prose log.

Anything else?

Thor potentially has a bunch of other powers according to the comics, but most of them will just really probably not even come up, so I  am planning on sticking to utilizing the ones seen in the films / logically connected to what was seen in the films.  If something did occur that might necessitate the use of a power he technically is supposed to have that I did not list above, I would contact you guys before implementing it.  But I don't foresee this happening!

Canon:   Marvel movieverse; Thor (2011 film), upcoming Avengers & Thor 2.  I'll be filling in the blanks with comics canon, particularly in regard to his abilities, etc.

Appearance:
Thor's big.  Like, big even among the gods.  Frigga made sure he drank all his blue milk growing up.  He looks ridiculously like the ideal Nordic god, with his flowing blonde locks, ice blue eyes, and manly beard.  He stands about 6'6" in the comics (his actor in the films is 6'3"), and weighs a ridiculous amount.  He also has totally godlike abs.  Thor tends to dress in shiny Asgardian battle armor, with a showy red cape.  Plus there's the whole helm with wings thing.

Personality:
People say a lot of terrible things about Thor.  He gets called arrogant, stupid, vain, rash, reckless, and nothing more than a child trying to prove himself a man.

Background:

Canon point:
Thor will be coming from the end of the film Thor, after the Bifrost is broken, etc.  I wanted to take him post-movie so that he will have already faced his trials of losing his powers and hammer, and grown enough from the arrogant man-child he was at the beginning of the movies that he'll be able to at least... eventually function within a team in CS.  Also, he'll have done without Mjolnir before, so as much as he might throw a hissy fit, he'll be able to cope, especially considering he's regained his other godlike abilities by passing Odin's test.

Special Abilities:
Thor will be sans mighty magical hammer in CS, but that doesn't mean he'll be helpless, by any stretch of the imagination.  He's still a god, and everything that comes with that package.

This will be toned down a bit when he arrives in this galaxy, because  he holds back his power to match the strength of those he fights.

Berserker Rage:  As if he weren't strong enough to go around crushing moons already, like any good barbarian god, Thor can go into A RAGE!!111 and get even stronger.  Just don't get in his way.

Asgard's Next Top Warrior:  Or really 'next' nothing.  He's a trained master fighter in hand to hand, wrestling, brawling, swordmanship, hammer wielding, and various other archaic weapons proficiencies.   He has centuries of battle experience to draw on, and can take on hundreds of enemies... at once.

I'll be making him a Force sensitive, and through that, he'll be able to regain access to abilities such as weather control, barriers and energy fighting, flight, et cetera... eventually.  Just using Force type powers instead of straight up magic.

Sect:
Civilian (Force sensitive)

Job:
Nope.  He'll be joining the CS Avengers eventually :)
